Goodbye from Meredith
Dear W&B Community,
Over the past year and a half I have been part of the transformation of Willoughby and Baltic from an idea of a hackerspace into the largest makerspace in the Boston area. There have been many people who have worked tirelessly to help Willoughby and Baltic succeed, and the space would not exist without them.
For me, watching this concept grow into a reality has been very fulfilling, and I realize that the entity is still in its infancy. I have seen some extraordinary works created at W&B that would not exist if our community was not available to the local artists and makers. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that we have helped others achieve their visions and have shared new skills.
In March, I will be moving my home about 45 minutes away from the Somerville area. Willoughby and Baltic is a space that requires local administration and I will no longer be able to commit a full-time volunteer effort to the group from such a distance. Effective March 1st, I will resign as head of Willoughby and Baltic, and hand the administration over to David Stokes. David has been part of the Willoughby and Baltic community from the beginning, and has a worked consistently to advance the community and space.
This is an exciting time to be part of Willoughby and Baltic as it enters the next phase and is “rebooted”. There will be vast organizational and administrative changes as well as policy development, and this is a key time to give your input and take an active role in shaping the growth of the organization.
To become part of the discussion-as well as the community- you will only need to commit to a membership for the month of March. The decisions about the future membership structure will be decided by the newly formed group.
I’d like to thank everyone who has helped build Willoughby and Baltic over the past year and a half. Your support and participation has meant everything.
Keep on building,
Meredith G.
